Mangalitsa Pigs

For our first post, we had to introduce our new friends. Here are the Mangalitsa pigs that were delivered in May by Heath Putnam, from his farm near Spokane. They are living at Maple Rock Farm here on Orcas Island. The little striped one is a purebred, the two largest ones are half Berkshire and half Mangalitsa and the two less striped ones are 3/4 mangalitsa. They are growing fast and are amazingly good natured. They have completely rooted out this formerly overgrown grape arbor area. Little Marco Pierre, the purebred, is attempting to climb the grapevine for a snack, in the upper photo.
